do ants matter to god?

So I bought an official “Uncle Milton’s Ant Farm” for my 5 year old daughter Hope about two month’s ago. I made the purchase because I killed the “Sea Monkeys” I had received as a gift and I needed to redeem myself. Anyhow, we waited 6 weeks to get the ants from old Uncle Milton and to our dismay…they were dead on arrival.

So, I sent an email off to their customer service people explaining the situation. A week later I get a response….

Hello,

I am very sorry that your ants did not make it. An order for replacement ants has been placed.

Sincerely,
Consumer Services
Uncle Milton Industries

The response was very nice and appropriate considering we are dealing with ants. So this leads me to my observation…..do we matter to God like ants matter to us? Is our existence to God like the ants are to us? Does God look down on one of us when we experience tragedy or some intense loss and say, “I am very sorry your didn’t make it“? If I was God, this would be my response! If I was God I would not have time to be bothered by the death, discomfort, sadness or sickness of a few “ants”. But much to my relief, this is not the case.

In the book of Psalms Kind David wrote, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you…” (Ps 55:22). God is not simply satisfied with watching us either make it or not and giving his comments on the action from his heavenly “peanut gallery”. He is in the mix with us, getting dirty, getting messy, on the ground caring about us, the “ants”. In fact in the verse above he actually wants me bother him to the extent of throwing all my worries on him so He can sustain me.

It makes no sense why He would care but He does and this has helped this “ant” get through some pretty big storms.

Great stuff Chad. You know I love you like God loves the ants. Are they still in the garage? Better than on my kitchen counter.
