Loss…

Sorry for slacking with the posts. I am back.

We have a family in our church that lost their house last night in one of our local Wildfires. Our pastor announced it to our congregation this morning and the outpouring from our church was awesome!

When my pastor began to go over the details of the magnitude of the loss and the various needs of the family, it got me thinking. A verse came to mind, 1 Peter 3:15 Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (NIV www.youversion.com)

This verse is normally used in reference to the “defense” of the Christian faith. I totally agree with that application. However, my thought went in the direction of, the way I live my life being the “reason” for the “hope” I have in Christ.

I thought about the tragic loss this family has suffered and our mutual responses to the situation. My response needs to be, “giving til’ it hurts” and doing what I can within my power to see that their needs are met. But also important is their response and their posture before God in this loss, believing (as crazy as it sounds) that through this mess, His AMAZINGNESS will be evident in His provision for them.

I need to be ready to both suffer loss and provide for those that have suffered loss. In either situation I have a unique opportunity for the world, inside and outside the church, to see that Jesus Christ ROCKS in every possible way. And the things I “profess” with my mouth aren’t just a bunch of crap but I actually live this stuff out in real life.

So the challenge…

What are you doing today to “give everyone who asks you a [VALID] reason for the hope you have?”

Faith in action. Definitely the best way to defend our faith and to prove it.

That really sucks that this family and so many more are losing their homes. But I guarantee that tonight, they feel different about what they are going through because of what all of you did to share with them. Very cool.

I haven't lost my house, but I can tell you that we've been in some serious need over the past few months.

It shocks me who has just shown up to help. Or called to encourage.

It also shocks me at who hasn't shown up or called.

These folks will remember & pass on your generosity.

MCC, isn’t it interesting the people that step up in a hard time and the ones that “walk” by? Exactly like the story of the Good Samaritan. The people we would expect to stop didn’t and the one we wouldn’t expect to stop, did.

I commented on your blog and didn’t even realize MCC was Mandy C. How funny is that.

Brent – I think it is cool when the “BODY” acts like the Bride of Christ and not a spoiled catty chick!

This was a good example of the church straight rocking and doing what we have been called to do.

    Thx for the comment man
