Community and Creativity…

I was looking at some old videos of Michael Card playing some of his songs on YouTube today when I came across something.

During the intro of one song, there is a quote from Michael that says the following.

“Creativity does not truly come from the popularized image of the tormented artist, struggling with the muse. True creativity is born in community as men and women of God listen to each other and to Him; as we seek to understand each other’s woundedness strengths.

I don’t think I have heard the idea of community + creativity put any better.

What do you find is the environment that lends to your best creativity?

I was discussing this with a friend yesterday. We both noted that very often our creativity peaks after an amazing church meeting, or during dinner, etc with church family.

Then coming here and seeing what Michael said, that makes so much sense.

Often the world can have a twisted view of creativity (the torture, etc) in much the same way it twists most things God created in beauty and perfection.

Totally agree, I don’t think I’ve heard this concept better explained

    beautiful words by Michael Card.
i had never considered where my own creativity comes from, besides recognizing it comes from God.
as i think of moments of vision or inspiration though i find it is true it does come from the community. when i seek to understand them i am inspired to encourage, love, build them up.
that is why there are events like the Feast of Tents.
i am also a better worship leader when i am intentional about seeking to understand the body.

May God use us ALL for His glory.
