Live and Lose
I want to be known
I don’t want to be overlooked
I want someone to search me out and find me where I exist
I believe all of us live in the ordinary, the mundane, the not-so-extraordinary, the “cracks” of life.
I am ok with living in the cracks.
I am even ok with the losses of live happening in these cracks.
But this doesn’t mean I don’t want to be found by someone
discovered by someone
even saved by someone
This is a song about living, losing and being worthy of someone finding you.
Live and Lose
Find me here
My lost is yours to knowLook for me
There are seeds of hope to sowIn the cracks
Where I live and loseSearch for me
I’m hidden but you’ll seeWait for me
These legs won’t carry me
Past the cracks, where I live and lose(Bridge)
You can be my noise
When I have no soundYou can be my net
When I stumble downYou can be my leap, up off the ground
My escape
From the live and lose
(Note: There are a couple of BIG flubs in the recording and a bit of paper rustling
Plan is to post a better recording by Friday)
Here is the new track!

it’s alright… if you’re into this kind of stuff
no, seriously, chad… GREAT song! thanks for posting, man!
Sounds good just pulled me out of my depression mood thank’s
this is SO great! thank you for sharing with me.
Well you really don’t need me to go on and on and on….about how much I enjoy your voice. So I won’t. And I’ll try to give a critical analysis of the song instead.
Freaking AWESOME!! Love the imagery in this. Another one for the iPod!
I like the hook. Song seems a little short, though and the bridge seems more like a chorus to me. Were you purposely avoiding the V-C-V-C-B-C arrangement?
I like the lyrics – they paint a picture in the mind, which for me is a mark of good lyrics.
Hey bro. Good catch on the whole bridge/verse thing.
It initially started as a bridge idea I had but it kept developing. I almost killed myself trying to wrestle it into a conventional format but finally gave up and embraced the weirdness. The hardest part was starting on the 2 vs the 1 and then trying to figure out what the heck I was gonna do for a bridge or chorus! I have NO idea what chord I am playing on the bridge! Finding it was a total accident
as to the brevity…I would like it to be longer. However I feel it expresses a complete thought and, maybe the bigger issue, I have a horrible time completing things! I needed to finish this one.
I have no problem with embracing the weirdness.
If you get a sec, check out the two songs here:
http://www.myspace.com/silencingthestones (this is my band – currently on hiatus).
The first is a more traditional Pop song setup. The second is a little less traditional, at least from a chorus standpoint. It’s more of a Verse-Tag-Verse-Tag-Bridge-Tag.
The thing about bridges, is that they usually connect two points in the song. You really couldn’t call yours a bridge, because there’s nothing on the other side.
You may could try restating or rewording the verses at the end and hitting the tag. Maybe try another verb tense (e.g. ‘you found me here’), if your looking for resolution in the song. It might work, might not.
If you can’t tell, I love the songwriting process.
As Diane said, another one for our iPods…well, the re-recording will be.
I actually love that it’s really short, simple, to the point. It’s some of your most beautiful lyrical imagery Chad.
Meanwhile, I’ve finally finished my first (non-congregational) song for over 6 months. As has become usual, it’s a special commission. Ha! It will be posted somewhere in the next 24 hrs
Mr David, I love the friendship and support you and your wife give Sarah and myself.
As to the lyrics. This is probably my favorite yet. So much so that there are some lines in the song I don’t fully understand just yet! I decided to “embrace and live the question”. Feels great.
I want to hear your new tune once you
post it!!!
Just came over from Sarah’s blog… Loved the song!
Great job Chad. I was blessed by it. Also, great site re-design.
Blessings bro,
Chuck
Very nice, Chad!
I really like the melody line with “In the cracks where I live and lose”! Very tasty.
…more cowbell may help…
Here from Lisa’s blog. Love the song. Thinking of David while listening really brings it into perspective.
beautiful!
Found my way here from Lisa Leonard’s blog. Beautiful song!! I like where it takes me!
I really like it Chad. It left me wanting more…I thought it was a little short as well. The poetry was beautiful and thought provoking.
You need to finish it…I love you and am proud of you as always…keep hearing from the Lord.
Kisses to you.

Chad love this song and all your music. I found you via Lisa’s web site and then realized I already “knew” you from you wife’s site. I write poetry and have a poem that has music called “Gift From Heaven”. The thing is I don’t write music or lyrics but this one has been in my head and I would love it if you could read it and if you liked it add it to your music because I think it would be awesome. If you are interested you can reach me through my website or e-mail. Thanks and God bless you in your awesome work.
awesome….Terry came home and told me about it. I love the inspiration behind it.
Really like this song. I read in Lisa Leonard’s blog that this song was inspired by David and really is as beautiful song as he is.
Really sweet!
An incredibly poignant song! I’m so glad that I had the chance to listen. Thank you.
This song is inspiring! I found you through Lisa’s blog. I am a social working in LA that does “family finding” work for teens in foster care with nowhere to go. I advocate for kids and I am there to pick up the pieces when plans fall through and this song is what it’s all about. Thanks.
